Day 2 – Sigiriya/ Minneriya/ Dambulla –A Balloon ride over Lions Rock of Sri Lanka and a Wildlife Safari

Good morning! After a hearty breakfast our Life is a trip Representative will proceed with you to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress…The Rock Fortress was created by King Kasyapa who reigned between 477 and 495 AD. The summit of this almost inaccessible rock is 180 m (600 ft.) above the surrounding jungle and was the setting for a courtly paradise of elegant pavilions amid gardens and pools. The Fortress was transformed into a recumbent lion by the addition of a brick-built head and foreparts of which only the paws remain. Broad moats and stone perimeter walls augmented the rock’s natural defences. In the event of an enemy approach, the outer moat was built so as to flood the entire area between the two moats. You take a Balloon ride over Sigiriya and view the striking scenery which surrounds the magnificent Sigiriya Rock Fortress at dawn after which you have a champagne breakfast once it’s all over - the old beautiful scenery makes up for spectacular photography: one you can take home to show friends and family of a most important UNESCO World Heritage Site in Sri Lanka.

After the Sigiriya Rock Fortress: we visit the Minneriya National Park for a safari.Minneriya National Park is dominated by the Minneriya tank.

It is in this Park you will find the Elephants in large numbers.  You will also find the Sambar, Spotted Deer and on rare occasions, a Leopard and Sloth Bear can be seen wading through the water in search of food. Flocks of cormorant, Painted Storks, Great White Pelican, Ruddy Turnstones and Grey Herons. The endemic birds found in this Park are the Sri Lanka Jungle Fowl, Sri Lanka Hanging Parrot, Sri Lanka Brown-capped Babbler and the Sri Lankan Grey Hornbill. One of the most spectacular wildlife events in this park is what is known as the ‘The Gathering’ (Elephants). Will Elephants come from beyond Minneriya, and at any one time it is possible to witness up to 300-400 elephants. They are not migrating, they simply ‘gather’, to socialize, bathe, feed and possibly mate.

To be an observer of the largest gathering of wild elephants in the world and we hope your honeymoon falls in this season: is truly a memorable sight, and is an unforgettable opportunity to watch the social dynamics of these great creatures. It is a unique phenomenon and only seen in Minneriya National Park. Recently, this amazing Gathering was listed as Number 6 in the Lonely Planet’s Guide to Natural Wildlife Spectacles of the World. We reach here and get our Safari tracker to view the amazing wildlife.

Day 7 – Bentota / Colombo – Capital of Sri Lanka/ Airport

If we have the time and if you have a late evening flight which we strongly recommend you to do as Life is a Trip Founders/Senior Staff would like to host you, the couple, for lunch–and you also have a chance do some shopping before we transfer you to the Airport.

Colombo is commercial hub and capital of Sri Lanka is throbbing city that reflects the trade culture of the past and showcases some historic colonial buildings. The city served as the principal seaport in the past and it continues to do so. But the historical sites replete with colonial architectural marvels and ruins constitute the major attractions drawing thousands of domestic and foreign travelers every year.

Here in Colombo, you can opt to enjoy a fair bargain by shopping at some of the reputed shopping malls such as ODEL, House of Fashion, Cotton Collection or local designer or Bangkok cloths at theArena, Romafour forclothes at bargain price.  Sri Lanka is the preferred manufacturer for foreign labels like Victoria Secret, Banana Republic, even Bebe, Mango or Zara cloths - They are either rejected shipments or a result of surplus production, a tiny anomaly, yet a bargain for any tourist who will purchase these cloths at a fraction of the price compared to abroad…

We will host you for lunch in the afternoon, it will be a pleasure to meet you.In the evening we bid farewell to you - our Royal guests – we hope you carry back pleasant memories of a land filled with helpful and smiling people and a culture rich with history and diversity and we also hope you enjoyed your first days of life together in this splendid Island – the Pearl of the Indian Ocean.
