  • We book an expedition with The Association for the Conservation of Primate Diversity in Sri Lanka, who do scientific studies and offer educational tours observing the fascinating lives of monkey societies. Here the expedition staff will take you on a tour to witness first-hand the soap-opera lives of famous monkey characters as shown in the Discovery Channel in documentaries like "Temple Troop", "Clever Monkeys" and "Dark Days In Monkeys City".

  • A Tour to observe the Elephant Society: also conducted by the The Association for the Conservation of Primate Diversity in Sri Lanka: Join an afternoon safari by jeep at the Minneriya or Kaudulla National Parks. Get close and observe herds of elephants, sometimes numbering 300 animals, and other wildlife native to the dry zone. See for yourself how the different herding patterns reflect adaptations to varying social and ecological needs

The Association for the Conservative of Primate Diversity isregistered as a non-profit company in Sri Lanka.  It can accept donations, or market for the support of conservation, research and education efforts and we in Life is a Trip fully honor their commitment towards the conservation programme. They are affiliated with the Institute of Fundamental Studies, Sri Lanka, where Dr. Dittus is a Visiting Senior Fellow and leader of the Primate Biology Project (IFS).   They do collaborative research with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Health at the University of Peradeniya and others. Dr. Dittus is a Research Associate of the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute and the Conservation Ecology Center, in Washington, DC, USA.

 

Day 1 -Negombo– Sun-kissed skin and golden beaches

Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport, Sri Lanka and be warmly greeted on arrival by a Life is a Trip Representative and transported to your hotel Negombo. Your day is spent at leisure sipping a cocktail, laying in the beach to get that sun-kissed skin, reading a book, strolling down the beach or taking in a soothing Spa Treatment at the rooftop of the hotel… the choice is yours.

Day 2 - Golden Cave Temple

This morning we leave to Polannaruwa fairly early after breakfast. En-route we visit the famous Cave Temple of Dambulla. Dating back to the 1st century BC, the cave temple at Dambulla is one of the most impressive in Asia. Consisting of five caves overhung by a vast rock towering 160metres over the surrounding plains, the temple was embellished with arched colonnades and gabled entrances in 1938 and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991. Whilst all five of the Dambulla Cave Temples are worth exploring, three really stand out. These are the Cave of the Divine King (home to a carved rock Buddha statue reaching 14 metres high), the Cave of the Great Kings (home to 56 statues of the Buddha), and the Great New Monastery (contains 50 statues of the Buddha as well as a statue of King Kirti Sri Rajasinha, the reigning King at the time of the painting of the walls and ceiling).

Spend a few hours completely immersingyourself in Sri Lankan History and then we leave for our overnight stay in Polannaruwa.

Day 3 – Meet the Monkey Family and theMagnificent Asian Elephants

Our next step of the journey is to meet the fascinating Monkey Family with the staff of The Association for the Conservation of Primate Diversity.

The expedition starts 6 a.m so be at the entrance by atleast 5.45 a.m., we will get the hotel to pack some breakfast for you to eat on the way.  Here the guides of Smithsonian Primate Research Centre show you a variety of social behaviors of the Monkey, including: maternal care, play, food competition, grooming, and a rich repertoire of facial gestures, body postures and vocal signal. You may also see territorial disputes (warfare), anti-predator behavior and possibly infanticide, among others.

In the evening we do a Safari by Jeep to the MinneriyaNational Park to get an up close look at the Elephants. Day 4 – Back to the beach

We head back to Negombo from Polannaruwa, on our way to Negombo, we will visit  the biggest wood carving factory in Polonnaruwa to have an interesting and informative look. When we reach Negombo we can spend the rest of the day lounging by the poolside or beach-A relaxing end to the tour, enjoying the peace and tranquilityof this exceptional golden beach inNegombo.

Day 5 - Negombo to International Airport– Farewell to Paradise

After Breakfast we leave to the airport, and we bid farewell to YOU - our Royal guests - it was a pleasure-we hope you carry back pleasant memories of a land filled with helpful and smiling people and memories of a wildlife safari that was truly magnificent! Ayubowan!
