Day 2 – Sigiriya / Polannaruwa/ Habarana – Climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, visit Ancient Archeological Ruins

This morning, we proceed to Sigiriya to climb the Rock Fortress:  a world heritage site built in 477 – 495 AD. The "Lion Rock" is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200metres from the scrub jungle containing the world Renowned Frescoes of the "Heavenly Maidens" of Sigiriya. Climbing this rock is well worth the view on top and educational informative sites we pass on the way.  We then we take off to Polannaruwa!

Today the ancient city of Polonnaruwa remains one of the best planned Archeological relic sites in the country, standing testimony to the discipline and greatness of the Kingdom's first rulers. Its beauty was also used as a backdrop to filmed scenes for the Duran Duran music video “Save a Prayer” in 1982. The ancient city of Polonnaruwa has been declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. We spend half a day as your interest dictates, strolling around this ancient city. Get a feel for what life might have been like hundreds of years ago or simply look in awe at the incredible craftsmanship on display.

Day 3 – Habarana / Colombo – Ancient Monastery and Sri Lanka’s stylish colonial capital

We end your journey visiting Sri Lanka’s Capital - Colombo.

En-route to Colombo though, we visit the Ritigala Monestary:  The monastic ruins at Ritigala are steeped in ancient history and mythology: The monastery shows none of the usual feature but is a beautiful place to visit steeped in history. Children will enjoy the feeling of discovery and exploration here as you need to explore yourselves, rather than have buildings explained in detail by a guide. Spend at least an hour and a half exploring this ancient site, wondering along the ancient paths once trodden by monks over 1000 years ago. In spite of its enormous significance, Ritigala remains one of the numerous “off the beaten track” culture and eco travel destinations of Sri Lanka.

When we reach Colombo later in the afternoon we tour Colombo. Like many capital cities in developing countries Colombo is fast changing its face.  Almost overnight, skyscrapers arise from where old buildings once stood. Yet in some parts, the old world charm is still retained.  Here we can visit a 100-year-old clock tower and several British built colonial buildings. Stop at Pettah Bazaar to see or shop for local handicrafts if we reach early enough and the shops are open yet. Next, visit a Hindu and Buddhist temples, drive past residential areas where you see the stately homes of the affluent, Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH is an outright gift to Sri Lanka from the People's Republic of China). We also visit a Buddhist Temple, Hindu Temple and a Muslim Mosque (Please wear appropriate clothing covering the arms and knees when visiting places of worship as a mark of respect to the different religions. We also request the guest to be very cautious about taking photos in ways that are insensitive to the Religion. Please behave with respect towards the religious artifacts and refrain from vandalism like scratching initials or words anywhere on site.)

Day 4 – Colombo to International Airport. Farewell to Paradise

This morning you can opt to enjoy a fair bargain by shopping at some of the reputed shopping malls in Colombo. Sri Lanka is the preferred manufacturer for foreign labels like Victoria Secret, banana republic, even Bebe, Mango or Zara cloths - They are either rejected shipments or a result of surplus production, a tiny anomaly, yet a bargain for any tourist who will purchase these cloths at a fraction of the price compared to abroad. We highly recommend an evening watching the sunset at a popular hotel pub at the Galle Face Hotel… relaxing, unwinding after your super holiday.

We head straight to the Airport from Colombo and bid farewell to YOU - our Royal guests - it was a pleasure: we hope you carry back pleasant memories of a land filled with helpful and smiling people and a culture rich with history and diversity! Ayubowan!
